Notes:
Indiana sees barcode scanning as a stepping stone to full electronic filing.
- we are not trying to replace current EF programs
- however, Indiana recognizes that paper forms will continue to be utilized for a
number of years
The advantage of barcoded forms is in the greatly reduced data entry, and data entry
correction time
- this will lead to reduced turn-around time and cost
Barcoding does avoid some of the issues associated with EF such as
- State has the source documents, original signatures and evidence submitted
- Taxpayer has the psychological comfort of the paper in the hand
Barcoding is less expensive than other methods of data capture to implement and maintain
