IV. Presentation of Task Force Group Work To Wireless Tax Group

Will Rice reported on the Wireless Task Group's presentation at the Wireless Industry Forum session in Scottsdale, Arizona October 30. There were 25-30 attendees, and the session primarily provided information to industry folks about the mission of the WTG, progress to date, and future plans, with a Q and A period following. Jake Hoffman indicated that he has a Powerpoint file used during the meeting that he can send to FTA for posting on the web page.

V. Technical Assessment Meeting in San Diego

Terry Garber reported on the ASC X12 Technical Assessment Subcommittee (TAS) meeting in San Diego December 3rd, that was attended by TIGERS representatives in order to present the proposed Mobile Sourcing transaction set (TS). TAS discussed and made recommendations on four issues relating to the proposed transaction set in particular. (These are outlined in the notes on this session on the FTA Web page at http://www.taxadmin.org/fta/edi/wireless.html.)

In a few weeks the TIGERS group will receive a formal document reflecting changes recommended to the TS in response to TAS, and then must respond in writing to TAS prior to the February X12 meeting in Seattle, WA Feb. 4-7. Assuming that the TS is approved for X12 ballot during the meeting, the voting would take place during a 45-day period following that session. By late April or Early May the results should be known.

A question was asked on whether the WTG has left enough space in the Special Tax District fields. (Three bytes for Special Tax District ID and five for Special Tax District Class Code). Some additional state research may be needed.

Darrell Bell asked whether the states will develop their own databases, or will vendors, or a combination; and will there be guidance to vendors on what is needed? Gerald replied that, most likely, a variety of approaches will and can be used. Some states may create their own; some may outsource creation of a database to a vendor; and some may use a commercial product and enhance it.

The next meeting (teleconference) was scheduled to take place on January 24, 2002 at 3 pm EST. The call was adjourned.
